A female Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) dropped onto our backyard spruce the other day.
I got a pretty good video of her behavior.
I saw a couple small white bugs zipping around and noticed when I slowed the video down how she reacted to them. Didn’t really catch that until I saw the slow motion clip.
At the beginning of the video is real time, and then I slowed it down so you can see what happens.
What is also interesting is the amount of force she produces when she lifts off the spruce branch.
Notice the distance the branch covers as it sways up and down in the slow clip. ( I put a red line in so you can see how much it moves in relationship to it.)
